Local MP Hon Louise Upston is grateful that the Health Minister, Hon Dr David Clarke listened to the voices of locals in keeping the Taupo rescue helicopter.
“The Taupo rescue helicopter plays a massive part in the emergency services of our region. I know people will be relieved that this valuable service is staying in our region," Ms Upston says.
“It's a service that has affected so many people and families over a number of years and the significance of potentially losing it was demonstrated by the thousands who turned out for the march in Taupo last month and an online petition that gathered over 30,000 signatures."
“I’ve also received a number of emails, phone calls and Facebook messages from the people of Taupo who were concerned about the potential of losing our rescue helicopter, with many sharing their own rescue stories.”
“The rescue helicopter is of vital importance and we are incredibly relieved to see it stay in Taupo.”
